Maryland Lottery players flew to Chicago for a second-chance event that included airfare, hotel stays, spending money and a fast-paced dash for merchandise
CHICAGO, Ill. — Six Maryland Lottery players traded winning tickets for a whirlwind shopping spree in Chicago, where they had just 90 seconds to grab as much merchandise as possible from a warehouse packed with prizes.
The winners earned their spots through the Maryland Lottery’s Holiday Cash and Dash second-chance promotion, which awarded a trip for two, airfare, hotel accommodations, a city tour, $1,000 in spending money and the signature warehouse shopping challenge.
Participants included Deborah Ford and Demetria Davis of Baltimore, Kandis Davis of Upper Marlboro, Tim Goenner of Thurmont, Aileen Flanagan of Hereford and Lennie Stanton of Windsor Mill.
The trip began June 4 with a welcome dinner at Michael Jordan’s Steak House, where winners and their guests met and shared stories before the weekend’s activities.
On June 5, the group participated in an architecture fireboat river and lake tour before exploring Chicago on their own.
The main attraction took place June 6 when the winners arrived at the warehouse for the Cash and Dash event.
Lottery officials said participants were welcomed with a red-carpet entrance, music and cheering spectators before being given 30 minutes to survey the warehouse and plan their strategy.
Each winner then received 90 seconds to collect merchandise of their choosing.
Among the most sought-after items were diamond earrings, Apple bundles, gaming systems, printers and household appliances.
According to lottery officials, all merchandise selected during the event will be shipped directly to the winners.
One participant’s daughter said the event created an atmosphere of cooperation among the winners, with participants sharing ideas and encouraging one another throughout the competition.
The Cash and Dash experience was part of a Maryland Lottery second-chance promotion that transformed non-winning entries into an all-expenses-paid Chicago adventure.
