A third-prize Powerball ticket turned a stop at an Apalachin Speedway into a major payday

APALACHIN, N.Y. — One New York Lottery player is holding a Powerball ticket worth $50K after a third-prize-winning ticket from Wednesday night’s drawing was sold at a gas station in the Southern Tier.

The New York Lottery announced the winning ticket for the May 20 Powerball drawing was purchased at Speedway #09954, located at 7774 NY-434 in Apalachin.

Lottery officials said the ticket matched enough numbers during the drawing to secure a third-prize payout worth $50,000.

Powerball numbers are selected from a field of one through 69, while the red Power Ball is drawn separately from a field of one through 26. Drawings are televised every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.

Winners of New York Lottery draw games have up to one year from the drawing date to claim their prize.

The New York Lottery said it remains North America’s largest and most profitable lottery, contributing $3.6 billion during the 2024-2025 fiscal year to support public schools across New York State.

Officials also reminded players that help is available for gambling addiction through NYProblemGamblingHelp.org, by calling the confidential HOPEline at 1-877-8-HOPENY (1-877-846-7369), or by texting HOPENY to 467369. Standard text messaging rates may apply.

Players must be 18 or older to participate in New York Lottery games.
