Police say surveillance video captured the suspect repeatedly striking the victim in the head
CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Cumberland man is behind bars after police said a violent assault at an apartment complex left a victim unconscious with severe head and facial injuries.
Officers responded Thursday to the 900 block of Gay Street after receiving reports of an assault, according to the Cumberland Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from serious head and facial injuries requiring immediate medical attention.
Investigators said witnesses provided information and security footage capturing the altercation.
According to police, the video showed the suspect suddenly attacking the victim and knocking him unconscious before continuing to strike him in the head while he was on the ground.
Following the investigation, officers arrested 40-year-old Herbert Frank Twitty of Cumberland.
Authorities charged Twitty with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and disorderly conduct.
After an initial court appearance, Twitty was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
All charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
