BOSTON, MA — A Boston man was arrested Thursday morning in connection with a stabbing that took place in the lobby of Massachusetts General Hospital, police said.
Officers from District A-1 responded around 8:32 a.m. to a report of a person with a knife at 90 Blossom Street. The call was quickly upgraded to a stabbing in progress, and responding units were given a suspect description.
Police arrived on scene and located the suspect, later identified as 56-year-old John Huddleston of Boston. Officers apprehended Huddleston near the hospital entrance while additional units entered the building and found an adult male victim being treated for stab wounds.
The injuries sustained by the victim were determined to be non-life-threatening. A crime scene was established in the hospital’s lobby vestibule, according to the Boston Police Department.
Huddleston was taken into custody at the scene and faces charges of mayhem and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
Investigation continues at hospital
Authorities have not released further details about what led to the attack or whether the suspect and victim knew each other. No other injuries were reported, and the hospital remained open following the incident.
Huddleston’s motive was not disclosed, and the investigation remains ongoing by local authorities. Officials did not identify the victim publicly as of Thursday afternoon.
