Man arrested in Severn shooting, woman hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries

SEVERN, Md. — A 48-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after a woman was shot during an argument at a residence on Oriole Court. The incident occurred at approximately 1:33 a.m. on September 28, 2024, according to local authorities.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a 34-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to her lower extremity on the front steps of the home. She was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, identified as Stacy Delon Smith, was found inside the residence holding a black Diamondback 9mm handgun. He complied with officers’ commands to drop the weapon and was taken into custody without incident.

The shooting reportedly followed an argument between Smith, the victim, and another female. Western District detectives are continuing the investigation and urge anyone with information to contact them at 410-222-6155 or the TipLine at 410-222-4700.
