A 29-year-old man was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after gunfire erupted on a Northwest D.C. block, but doctors were unable to save him
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 29-year-old man died after being shot in Northwest D.C. early Sunday morning, prompting a homicide investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.
According to MPD, Third District officers responded at approximately 2:17 a.m. to the 1300 block of 6th Street NW following reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male conscious and breathing but suffering from gunshot wounds.
DC Fire and EMS personnel responded and transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the man later died from his injuries.
Police identified the victim as Eligio Daniel Perez, 29, of Northwest D.C.
Investigators have not released information regarding a suspect or a possible motive.
The case remains under investigation by MPD homicide detectives.
