Man dies from injuries after being hit by car while crossing Rockville road

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A 28-year-old Gaithersburg man has died nearly two weeks after being struck by a car while attempting to cross a busy road in Rockville, police said.

The incident occurred on October 30, just before 5:30 a.m., when Luis Rios Chirinos was crossing Viers Mill Road from the median and was hit by a black Lexus GS. Medics arrived at the scene and transported Chirinos to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries on November 11.

The driver of the Lexus stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD).

MCPD’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is requesting any witnesses to the crash or individuals with additional information to contact them at 240-773-6620.
