Man Indicted for Brutal Machete Killing of Ex-Girlfriend in Wall Township

August 21, 2024

FREEHOLD, N.J. — A Wall Township man has been indicted by a Monmouth County grand jury on charges including first-degree murder in connection with the gruesome machete attack that claimed the life of his ex-girlfriend, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Alex J. Williams, 25, is accused of fatally attacking Brianna Greenwood, 29, on May 23, 2024, in the parking lot of the Glen Oaks Apartment Complex near Aspen Circle. The indictment also includes charges of endangering the welfare of a child, as Greenwood’s 3-year-old child was nearby during the violent assault.

According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Wall Township police responded to the scene around 9:22 a.m. and found Greenwood suffering from severe injuries, including facial lacerations and an almost completely severed left arm. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries.

An investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and Wall Township Police revealed that Williams used a machete in the attack. He was arrested without incident and remains incarcerated at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, following a successful motion by the State to detain him.

The grand jury indictment includes one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
