Man indicted in Chester carjacking that injured two women

CHESTER, N.Y. — A 34-year-old man has been indicted on multiple charges, including robbery and assault, after allegedly carjacking a vehicle with an elderly woman inside and injuring two people in a Chester shopping center parking lot.

Edward Keegan was arraigned Tuesday in Orange County Court following the February 21 incident at 78 Brookside Avenue. Prosecutors say he entered a parked vehicle while a woman was inside, assaulted her, and attempted to drive away. The vehicle’s owner tried to block his escape and was struck and injured.

Keegan fled but was later arrested after crashing the stolen car on State Route 17 near Exit 130. He faces charges including two counts of second-degree robbery, second-degree assault, fourth-degree grand larceny, and second-degree unlawful imprisonment.

“No one could have expected this type of unprovoked violent encounter during a routine shopping trip,” Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said.

Keegan was remanded to Orange County Jail with bail set at $100,000 cash or bond options up to $400,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 25.
