Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — A 29-year-old man was fatally shot and two others were wounded in two separate shootings reported within an hour Tuesday night, police said, with no arrests made in either case.
The deadly shooting occurred around 9:51 p.m. in the city’s 26th District, where officers responding to reports of a person with a gun on North Howard Street found a chaotic scene marked by numerous shell casings and a bullet-riddled vehicle, according to Philadelphia police.
Fatal shooting leaves one dead, another critically injured
Shortly after officers arrived, Joseph Marte, 29, of the 600 block of Cornwall Street, was rushed by private vehicle to Episcopal Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at 9:52 p.m.
A second victim, a 26-year-old man, was also transported by private vehicle to Temple University Hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.
Police said a white Subaru at the scene had been struck multiple times by gunfire, underscoring the intensity of the shooting.

Earlier shooting tied to dispute at neighborhood gathering
Roughly 45 minutes earlier, officers in the 22nd District responded to another shooting at approximately 9:07 p.m. on North Colorado Street.
At the scene, police found a 19-year-old woman who had been shot once in the calf. She was transported to Temple University Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
Preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation between two women during a gathering on the block, investigators said.
The circumstances suggest a targeted confrontation rather than a random act, though police have not released further details about those involved.
Investigations remain active across both scenes
The Shooting Investigation Group is handling the earlier 22nd District case, while homicide detectives are focused on the fatal shooting in the 26th District.
In both incidents, no suspects have been taken into custody, and authorities have not disclosed whether the shootings are connected.
The close timing of the two घटनements—both occurring within the same section of North Philadelphia in under an hour—adds urgency to the ongoing investigations.
Police are expected to review surveillance footage and forensic evidence collected at both scenes as they work to determine what led to the violence.
Ongoing search for answers
Authorities continue to seek information from the public as they work to identify those responsible in both shootings.
As of now, Joseph Marte has been confirmed as the only fatality, one man remains hospitalized in critical condition, and the teenage victim is expected to recover. Both investigations remain active with no arrests announced.
