Man posing as cop handcuffs victim during driveway robbery in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A man impersonating a law enforcement officer handcuffed a Brooklyn resident in his own driveway during a robbery last Sunday, according to police.

The incident occurred around 7:35 p.m. on May 18 near 57th Street and 9th Avenue, when an unidentified man wearing an unknown shield around his neck exited a black Ford SUV and confronted a 42-year-old man outside his home.

Police say the suspect placed the victim in handcuffs and ordered him to open his garage door. He then forcibly took the victim’s house and car keys before fleeing the scene in the same black Ford SUV. The direction of travel was not known.

The victim sustained minor injuries during the encounter and was transported by EMS to Maimonides Medical Center for treatment. He has since been released.

Suspect still at large

The suspect is described as a male between 35 and 40 years old, approximately 6 feet tall, with a thin build and light complexion. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, white and black shoes, and a dark-colored baseball hat.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the shield the suspect wore was authentic or if it bore markings resembling a law enforcement badge. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
