Man Posing as Woman Arrested After Assaulting Congresswoman Nancy Mace Inside U.S. Capitol Bathroom

December 11, 2024

WASHINGTON — Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) alleged late Monday that she was physically assaulted by a transwoman, whom she described as a “biological male,” inside a restroom at the U.S. Capitol.

Mace stated that the incident left her with an injured wrist and arm, requiring her to wear a brace and use ice for relief. “One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm, and it’ll heal just fine,” Mace wrote in a post on social media following the encounter.

Capitol Police confirmed the arrest of an individual in connection with the alleged altercation but did not release additional information, citing an ongoing investigation. Details regarding the nature of the incident and its circumstances remain unclear.

Mace characterized the assault as part of broader threats she says she has faced due to her political stances. “Your trans violence and threats on my life will only make me double down,” Mace wrote, using the phrase “FAFO,” an acronym for “F*** Around and Find Out.”

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, which comes amid heightened tensions over debates involving transgender rights and safety in public spaces.

Officers from the House Division and agents from the police department’s Threat Assessment Section apprehended the suspect, identified as 33-year-old James McIntyre of Illinois.
