ALEXANDRIA, VA – A fatal shooting involving an Alexandria Police officer occurred late Sunday night at a residence on Maris Avenue. The incident took place around 10:46 p.m. at 5101 Maris Ave.

Upon responding to a call at the address, officers encountered an armed adult male in the stairwell of the building. The confrontation led to an officer-involved shooting, where the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The regional Critical Incident Response Team is handling the investigation of this incident. As of now, there have been no other injuries reported in connection with this event.
