Man shot in leg after fleeing suspect near 52nd and Girard in West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg late Tuesday night in West Philadelphia after attempting to flee a suspect he saw exiting a SEPTA bus, according to police.

Officers from the 19th District responded to the report of a male shot at approximately 11:15 p.m. on June 18 near the 5200 block of West Girard Avenue. The victim had fled the scene and returned to his residence on the 5100 block of Chancellor Street after being struck in the right leg.

He was later transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center by emergency medical personnel and was reported to be in stable condition.

According to investigators, the victim had been waiting for a bus at 52nd and Girard when he noticed a male suspect exiting a SEPTA bus. The suspect was described as a Black male, approximately 20 years old, with a slim build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black Under Armour face mask.

The suspect allegedly reached into a black and blue bookbag, prompting the victim to flee southbound on 600 North Creighton Street. Police say the suspect then fired one round, striking the victim in the leg.

Suspect remains at large as investigation continues

No arrests have been made, and the motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time.

The Philadelphia Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and is seeking any witnesses or surveillance footage that may aid in identifying the suspect.

As of Thursday, no further details have been released.
