Man stabbed in chest at Utica intersection survives as suspect arrested days later

Utica, NY — A man was stabbed in the chest during a daylight attack in Utica, but survived after being rushed to the hospital — and now police say they’ve arrested the suspect responsible.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Walker Street and Kemble Street around 4:40 p.m. on August 10, where they found a man with a serious stab wound to the chest. He was transported by Utica Fire Department to Wynn Hospital, where emergency room staff stabilized him. He is expected to fully recover.

The case was immediately turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division, which led to the arrest of 30-year-old Deronn Pool of Utica four days later.

Pool was charged with attempted assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. Details about what led to the stabbing have not been released.
