Man wanted in upstate New York quadruple murder arrested in the Dominican Republic

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — A man wanted for the brutal murder of a family of four in upstate New York last summer was arrested Wednesday in the Dominican Republic, U.S. Marshals announced this week.

Luis Soriano, 31, also known as Jefry Yevo, had been sought by the Irondequoit Police Department in connection with a quadruple homicide that occurred on Aug. 31 in the Rochester suburb. He is charged with four counts of second-degree murder, along with arson, burglary, kidnapping, and narcotics offenses.

Police discovered the bodies of Fraime Ubaldo, 30, Marangely Moreno Santiago, 26, and their children, Evangeline, 4, and Sebastian, 2, after responding to a house fire on Knapp Avenue on the morning of the crime. The victims were found in the basement.

“This was a horrific scene,” Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters said at the time, speaking to local ABC affiliate WHAM. “In almost 32 years of doing this job, I have never seen anything like it.”

The murder happened on Labor Day, and authorities have not disclosed a motive behind the killings. Investigators previously said the Soriano brothers were cousins of the murdered father, Fraime Ubaldo.

Second suspect already indicted

Julio Soriano, 34, Luis’s brother, was arrested one week after the incident and indicted on similar charges including murder, burglary, arson, and kidnapping. He pleaded not guilty and remains in custody as court proceedings continue.

Luis Soriano’s arrest brings a near year-long manhunt to a close. U.S. Marshals did not specify the circumstances of the capture but confirmed his detention and the initiation of extradition procedures.
