Police are searching for a suspect who assaulted and robbed a 70-year-old man in broad daylight in the Bronx last month, striking the victim over the head with a chair before fleeing with his property.
The incident occurred on Thursday, April 24, at approximately 12:00 p.m. in front of 310 East Kingsbridge Road in the 52nd Precinct. According to the NYPD, an unidentified male approached the elderly victim and struck him in the forehead with a chair, causing a laceration.
After the attack, the assailant removed a pocket knife from the victim and fled the location on foot. He was last seen heading southbound on East Kingsbridge Road. The suspect’s direction of travel beyond that point remains unknown.
The victim, whose name has not been released, sought medical attention privately and was treated at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. His injuries were not reported to be life-threatening.
Suspect description and investigation status
The suspect is described by police as a male with a dark complexion who was wearing glasses. At the time of the assault, he was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, red sweatpants, a black baseball cap, and multicolored sneakers.
The NYPD has not released surveillance footage or additional images of the suspect and has not indicated whether the incident was targeted or random. The investigation is ongoing.
