Manhunt underway for suspect in violent Cumberland assault

CUMBERLAND, MD – Police are searching for a man accused of carrying out a serious assault early Saturday morning in the 500 block of North Centre Street.

Investigators identified the suspect as 49-year-old Roger Louis Johnson of Cumberland.

A warrant has been issued for Johnson’s arrest, and authorities warn he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Multi-agency investigation leads to suspect identification

Members of the Combined County Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) and deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office joined Cumberland Police at the scene in the early morning hours of Saturday. After gathering evidence and witness accounts, investigators identified Johnson as the suspect responsible for the attack.

Police issue public warning and appeal for information

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and to immediately report any sightings of Johnson. Anyone with information about his location is asked to contact the Cumberland Police Department at (301) 777-1600. Tips may also be submitted anonymously through the department’s Facebook page, the city website, or in person at police headquarters, located at 20 Bedford Street.
