Maryland 7-Eleven sells life-changing scratch-off

Last King of Diamonds ticket scores $100K for DC man at Maryland 7-Eleven

BOWIE, MD – A Washington, D.C. man on a routine stop at a 7-Eleven in Maryland walked away with a $100,000 top prize after purchasing the last remaining King of Diamonds scratch-off ticket in the dispenser—an impulse that turned out to be a life-changing decision.

The $10 ticket was bought at the 7-Eleven located at 3570 Crain Highway in Bowie. The HVAC technician, who has worked in Maryland for over two decades, scratched the ticket later that day at home. At first glance, he saw a $2,000 win from several matching numbers. But when he noticed the X50 multiplier printed on the upper corner of the ticket, the prize instantly jumped to $100,000.

Unsure of the total at first, he consulted a friend familiar with the Maryland Lottery who confirmed the windfall. He officially claimed the prize on Monday at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The winner, nearing retirement after 20-plus years in the trades, said he plans to use the money to pay off small debts but hasn’t yet decided what to do with the rest of the cash.

The 7-Eleven where the ticket was sold will receive a $1,000 retailer bonus for selling a top-prize winning ticket.

The King of Diamonds scratch-off game launched in September. This marks only the second of the seven available $100,000 top prizes to be claimed so far, leaving five top prizes still in circulation.
