HUNTINGTOWN, MD – A Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department ambulance crashed along northbound Route 4 Friday morning, sending four department members to hospitals, including two who were airlifted for treatment, according to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.
Two Huntingtown volunteer firefighters were flown to MedStar after the single-vehicle crash while investigators seek witnesses
The single-vehicle crash happened shortly after 10 a.m. in the area of Route 4 and Calverton School Road in Huntingtown.
Deputies arriving at the scene found Ambulance 68 from the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department involved in the crash.
Four HVFD members were injured, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Two members flown to MedStar
Maryland State Police Aviation transported two of the injured members to MedStar.
A third person was taken by ground ambulance to MedStar, while the fourth was transported to CalvertHealth.
The Sheriff’s Office did not release the identities of those injured or provide additional details about their conditions.
Officials also did not say what caused the ambulance to crash or whether it had been responding to an emergency at the time.
No other vehicles were reported to have been involved.
Investigators searching for witnesses
Deputies are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are seeking information from anyone who saw what happened.
Investigators are also interested in hearing from motorists who observed events leading up to the crash.
