A retired Prince George’s County police officer said a routine morning check of his lottery numbers turned into a career-high payout this week, after a $4 ticket matched all five numbers in Maryland’s Bonus Match 5 drawing. The man, a frequent lottery player, claimed a $50,015 prize Monday in Baltimore, calling the win the largest he has ever recorded.
BALTIMORE, MD – The winning ticket was purchased at a Royal Farms store at 100 Monument Avenue in Oxon Hill, earning the retailer a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket. The April 3 drawing delivered the five-number match, with the player discovering the result the following morning using the Maryland Lottery app.
“He’s a frequent player,” lottery officials noted, and the winner confirmed his regular participation across multiple games. “Over the course of a month I bet that I play every game that you have,” he said. “And I’ve been pretty lucky. Lots of wins.”
Routine check turns into top prize moment
The man said checking his numbers is part of his daily routine. “I check my numbers right away when I wake up,” he said. That habit paid off when he realized his ticket matched all of the winning numbers.
“I remember thinking, ‘Wow. It finally happened,’” he said.
The $50,015 total included a $15 addition from a lower-tier win on another combination on the same ticket, pushing the payout just above the standard $50,000 top prize.
Longtime player says win felt inevitable
Despite the size of the prize, the winner said he was not caught off guard by the outcome. “I’ve always felt that something big would come my way. This counts,” he said.
Lottery officials confirmed the ticket cost $4 and was part of the Bonus Match 5 game, one of several offerings the player said he regularly participates in.
