Maryland man waits until the final days to claim $50K lottery prize

CLINTON, MD — A Prince George’s County man waited nearly six months to claim his $50,000 Pick 5 prize, finally cashing in just days before it was set to expire.

The winning ticket, purchased at 2 Go Convenience and Deli at 9016 Washington Blvd. in Savage, matched the numbers straight in the Aug. 21 drawing.

The truck driver, who routinely buys Pick 4 and Pick 5 tickets after work, said he discovered the win the following day but chose to keep it a secret, even from his wife.

Maryland Lottery rules require Pick 5 prizes to be claimed within 182 days of the drawing, and the retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
