Army veteran wins record-breaking $660K Racetrax prize in Maryland
EDGEWATER, MD — A Prince George’s County Army veteran has claimed the largest Racetrax prize in Maryland Lottery history, taking home $660,414 after placing a $1 superfecta bet with a bonus multiplier.
The ticket was purchased on January 12 at the American Legion Cummings-Behlke Post 226, located at 830 Mayo Road in Edgewater. The player, who used the alias Irish Luck, selected horses 12, 10, 8, and 7 to finish in that exact order over 10 races. He added the bonus feature, increasing the ticket cost to $20.
The base payout for the winning combination was $220,138. A 3X bonus multiplier was randomly drawn for that race, tripling the prize to $660,414 — setting a new record since Racetrax launched in Maryland in 2006.
The winner described himself as an occasional player who typically doesn’t watch the races unfold, preferring to check results later. He scanned the ticket using the Lottery app and discovered the six-figure prize after returning home.
The Anne Arundel County retailer that sold the ticket will receive a $6,604.14 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
Before this win, the largest Racetrax prize had been $361,842, claimed by a Washington, D.C., resident in 2016.
The winner said he plans to share the prize with family.
