ALLEGANY COUNTY, MD — A Frostburg woman has been indicted and arrested on arson charges for allegedly setting fire to her estranged boyfriend’s home last October, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office announced Tuesday.
Heather Lynn Hutcheson, 43, was taken into custody following a grand jury indictment stemming from an October 13, 2024, fire at 11205 Upper Georges Creek Road in Frostburg. Authorities say the Shaft Fire Department responded to the blaze around 1:15 p.m. after a passerby reported smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters brought the fire under control in about ten minutes.
Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set, citing evidence of multiple points of ignition throughout the home. Further investigation placed Hutcheson at the property before the fire. With assistance from the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office, the case was presented to a grand jury, leading to the indictment.
Hutcheson was arrested Tuesday morning and is being held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center. She has been charged with first-degree arson and faces up to 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine if convicted.
