Randallstown woman nearly trashes $2M winning scratch-off before realizing jackpot hit
RANDALLSTOWN, MD – A quick grocery run turned into a multimillion-dollar surprise for a Randallstown woman who unknowingly held a $2 million winning scratch-off ticket in her hand — and almost threw it away.
The longtime lottery player made the purchase at the Giant Food Store on Mill Run Circle in Owings Mills after scratching off a $50 winner on a previous ticket. With her winnings, she decided to try her luck again, opting for a $30 MONOPOLY X200 scratch-off — a move that changed everything.
Initially confused by the “take to Lottery” message that appeared when she scanned her ticket, she nearly discarded it. A second glance confirmed what she had missed: she had won one of the game’s top prizes, worth $2 million.
Though she has no immediate plans for the windfall, the Baltimore County winner is considering retirement from her job as a secretary. For now, she says the money will be safely saved.
The retailer, Giant Food, will receive a $2,000 bonus for selling the top-prize-winning ticket. The MONOPOLY X200 scratch-off launched last November as part of the Maryland Lottery’s MONOPOLY-themed ticket lineup, licensed by Scientific Games, LLC.
