MCLEAN, VA – A McLean man sitting upstairs on his computer decided to try a Virginia Lottery online game and suddenly found himself staring at a $502,008 jackpot, forcing him to check the screen repeatedly before believing what had just happened.
The Northern Virginia resident won the prize playing Marvelous Money: Vegas Nights, an online instant game offered through the Virginia Lottery.
The winner chose to remain anonymous, a right provided to Virginia Lottery winners under state law.
Lottery officials said the man was upstairs using his computer when he decided to play the game.
His session produced a jackpot worth exactly $502,008.
The result caught him by surprise.
The winner told lottery officials he needed to look at the result three and four times before accepting that he had landed the six-figure prize.
Marvelous Money: Vegas Nights is among the online instant games available through the Virginia Lottery website and mobile app.
Its jackpot grows with game play, according to the lottery.
The overall odds of winning any prize in Marvelous Money: Vegas Nights are 1 in 4.31.
Virginia Lottery customers can also purchase entries online for Powerball, Mega Millions, Millionaire for Life, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5 and Cash 5 with EZ Match.
Online players must be at least 18 years old and physically located within Virginia when playing.
