Meadowlands Active Shooter Training Scheduled for Thursday

SECAUCUS, NJ — The Secaucus Police Department, in collaboration with various town first responders, is scheduled to conduct an active shooter drill at the Meadowlands Exposition Center, located at 355 Plaza Drive, on Thursday, November 30, 2023. The exercise, developed by the department’s Planning, Special Events, and Intelligence Section under Captain Carlos Goyenechea, aims to test and improve the coordinated response of law enforcement and emergency personnel during an active shooter scenario.

Chief Dennis Miller of the Secaucus Police Department emphasized the importance of realistic training conditions to assess the effectiveness of their active shooter response strategies. The drill will be evaluated by tactical professionals from the New Jersey State Police and the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team, providing valuable feedback to enhance the department’s capabilities and ensure maximum safety for the community and first responders.

Residents and travelers in the area can expect to see a significant presence of law enforcement and emergency responders near the Meadowlands Exposition Center starting around 7 a.m. on the day of the drill. The exercise will likely impact traffic, and alternate travel routes are recommended during these hours.

Participating in the drill alongside the Secaucus Police Department are the Secaucus Fire Department, EMS from Hudson Regional Hospital, the Secaucus Office of Emergency Management, Hudson County Office of Emergency Management, New Jersey State Police, and the Secaucus Department of Public Works.
