FREEHOLD, N.J. – A Middletown man who stabbed a relative in the neck inside their home was sentenced to 15 years in state prison, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Tuesday.
Timothy J. Sauers, 38, was sentenced Thursday by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Paul X. Escandon after pleading guilty in January to first-degree attempted murder. Sauers must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act. He is also barred from contacting the victim or returning to the crime scene.
Authorities responded to a domestic disturbance at a Hillside Street residence on July 5, 2023. Officers found a victim suffering from a stab wound to the neck. Another resident was also injured while intervening. Two minor children were present but unharmed.
An investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Middletown Township Police Department identified Sauers as the assailant.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutors Hoda Soliman and Jamie Fitzgerald, while Sauers was represented by attorney Michael A. Policastro.
