PORT JEFFERSON, NY – A routine stop at a neighborhood grocery store turned life-changing for one lucky player who purchased a $1,000,000 second-prize-winning Powerball ticket in Suffolk County.

The winning ticket for the September 1 drawing was sold at Village Grocery, located at 328 Main Street in Port Jefferson. While the player missed the jackpot, they matched five white ball numbers, securing the game’s second-highest prize: a cool $1 million.

Powerball numbers are drawn from a set of 1 to 69 for the white balls and 1 to 26 for the red Power Ball. Drawings take place three times a week—every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.

The identity of the winner has not yet been released. Winners have up to one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.

The New York Lottery, which contributed $3.6 billion to public schools statewide in the latest fiscal year, continues to lead North America in revenue and prize payouts.
