LONG NECK, Del. – An argument over a seat at a Sussex County bar turned violent Saturday night when a Millsboro man allegedly stabbed another customer, then took off on a motorcycle and led Delaware State Police on a pursuit that ended in Milton.
Douglas Clay, 67, of Millsboro, was arrested following the chase and now faces felony assault, felony DUI and related charges, according to Delaware State Police. He was later ordered held on a $129,018 cash bond.
The 44-year-old man who was stabbed was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Police have not released his name.
Argument at The Crab Barn Ends in Stabbing
Troopers were called to The Crab Barn at 32600 Long Neck Road at about 9 p.m. Saturday for a reported stabbing.
Investigators said Clay and the victim had been involved in a disagreement over a seat at the bar before the stabbing. Clay allegedly left on a motorcycle before troopers arrived.
Police spotted him a short time later traveling north on Indian Mission Road and attempted to pull him over.
Clay did not stop, according to investigators.
Instead, police said he accelerated and led troopers through several area roads, traveling at high speed and driving recklessly before eventually stopping in Milton.
Troopers took him into custody there.
Police Say Clay Showed Signs of Impairment
Clay was taken to a hospital for what State Police described as a medical issue. Troopers said they observed multiple signs of impairment while dealing with him.
After his release from the hospital, Clay was taken to Delaware State Police Troop 7 for processing.
Police said he was charged with felony assault, felony DUI and additional offenses stemming from the stabbing and pursuit. He was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction in lieu of the $129,018 cash bond.
The charges against Clay are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
