Monmouth Man on Indicted Multiple Charges, Including Vehicular Homicide

FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced that a grand jury has indicted Altonia Williams, 46, on a 19-count indictment for various crimes occurring on August 14th.

The charges include one count each of Armed Robbery and Armed Burglary, four counts of Aggravated Assault by Pointing a Firearm, and various other charges related to unlawful possession of a firearm, eluding, and vehicular homicide.

On the early morning of August 14, Long Branch Police responded to an armed home invasion report on Narragansett Avenue. A man armed with a gun was demanding money from a homeowner. Police located a white BMW fleeing the scene, which led to a high-speed chase and a collision with a patrol car driven by Officer Brito. The crash resulted in serious injuries to a 38-year-old female passenger in the BMW, who later died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Officer Brito was treated for injuries and released.

Williams fled the crash site but was later found hiding with a loaded handgun. Investigations revealed his license was suspended and he was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash.
