Morning Commuter Report Traffic Delays on New Jersey Highways

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Commuters across New Jersey faced delays this morning due to several incidents on major highways. As of 7:30 a.m., a disabled truck on the northbound outer roadway of the New Jersey Turnpike, just south of Interchange 9 near NJ-18 in Milltown, has blocked the center lane, contributing to significant traffic congestion in the area.

Earlier, at 6:41 a.m., a crash involving injuries occurred on the inner roadway of the Turnpike, also near Interchange 9 in East Brunswick Township. The right shoulder remains blocked as emergency services are on-site, further complicating the morning commute.

Drivers on I-78 at Tunnel Road encountered moderate to heavy traffic, as ongoing construction continues to slow down traffic flow. No major incidents were reported on I-78, but congestion is expected to persist throughout the morning.

Travel times from the Raritan Toll Plaza to several key exits, including Exit 117 in Sandy Hook and Exit 98 in Belmar, remain within typical ranges, though delays may increase if incidents are not cleared promptly. Commuters heading to the southern shore destinations like Atlantic City and Ocean City should expect travel times of over an hour and a half.

Additional delays were noted on Route 22, where eastbound traffic from North Gaston Avenue to US 1&9 is moving slowly, taking about 34 minutes to cover the 25-mile stretch.

Authorities urge drivers to plan for extra travel time this morning and consider alternate routes where possible. According to the New Jersey State Police, “Crews are working to clear the scenes, but motorists should remain patient and cautious.”
