A recent AP Poll, which included residents of New Jersey and New York shows that most Americans think Joe Biden is too old to serve as President of the United States.

A recent nationwide poll has revealed that a majority of Americans, including members of both major political parties, believe Joe Biden is too old to effectively serve as President of the United States. The study also showed ambivalence towards age as a factor for former President Donald Trump.

The poll, conducted from August 10-14, shows that 75% of the public thinks Biden is too old for the role. Among Democrats, 62-77% echo this sentiment, depending on age group, while most Republicans also agree. In contrast, 50% of adults feel the same about Donald Trump.

When asked for the first word that comes to mind regarding each candidate, Biden’s age and associated characteristics were the most mentioned, while words related to corruption and untrustworthiness dominated for Trump.

Opinions about Biden’s age appear consistent across generations, with 70% of both younger and older adults in agreement. Within the Democratic party, younger members are more concerned about his age. Despite these reservations, 77% of younger Democrats indicate they will probably vote for Biden if he is the nominee, although only 28% are sure they will.

Among Democrats who believe Biden is too old, only 14% want him to seek re-election. Conversely, 60% of those who don’t see his age as an issue want him to run again. Older Democrats are generally more supportive of his current performance and economic management.

The poll also uncovered bipartisan support for setting age limits on key governmental positions, including the presidency, Congress, and the Supreme Court.

This poll was conducted by the AmeriSpeak Panel of NORC at the University of Chicago, with a margin of sampling error of +/- 3.8 percentage points.
