Mother charged in death of child in Macon County

MACON COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities have charged Yakeeva Latai Davis of Franklin, N.C., with one count of felonious murder following the death of a seven-year-old child. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office announced the charge on social media Monday.

Deputies responded to a local residence on Sunday, October 6, where the child was found deceased. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the child’s mother was also found at the scene in critical condition and was flown to a nearby hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release further details about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Davis, who remains in custody, has been held without bond.
