MEDFORD, N.J. — A 28-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious injuries Monday afternoon when his motorcycle struck another vehicle along Route 70 in Medford, police said.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:16 p.m. Sept. 8 near the intersection of Route 70 and Eugenia Drive.
Officers from the Medford Township Police Department, township Fire and EMS personnel, and Virtua paramedics responded.
Police say motorcycle used shoulder to pass traffic
Investigators determined that Michele Manning, 55, of Medford, was attempting to turn left from Route 70 onto Eugenia Drive.
At the same time, Michael Herbert, 28, also of Medford, was riding a motorcycle and improperly passing motorists along the shoulder of Route 70, police said.
Herbert’s motorcycle struck the side of Manning’s vehicle. The impact left Herbert with serious injuries and Manning with minor injuries, according to police.
Rider flown to Camden hospital
Emergency crews airlifted Herbert to Cooper University Hospital in Camden for treatment. Police did not release an update on his condition.
Authorities did not say whether Manning required hospitalization.
The crash forced officials to close part of Route 70 for an extended period while emergency crews worked at the scene and investigators examined the roadway.
The Medford Township Traffic Unit continues to investigate the collision. Police did not announce any charges or summonses.
