Motorcyclist killed after teen crossed center line to pass a tractor-trailer

COLUMBUS, OH – On Saturday, June 19, 2021 at approximately 1:40am, 19-year-old Johana Foster of Columbus, was traveling southbound on Winchester Pike, approaching Sobeck Road, in a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. At this same time, 26-year-old Mutaquin Mitchell of Columbus, was traveling northbound on Winchester Pike, approaching the same location onboard a 2009 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle.

Mitchell had a passenger on the rear of the motorcycle, 33-year-old Charmayne Sharp of Columbus. Foster initiated a lane change, crossing the centerline in an attempt to overtake a southbound semi tractor-trailer, and struck the oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcycle passenger, Ms. Sharp, was transported to the Grant Medical Center in critical condition. The motorcycle operator, Mr. Mitchell, was pronounced deceased at the scene at 1:48 am.

CPD’s Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation, which is ongoing.This is the 43rd reported fatal motor vehicle crash, has resulted in 46 fatalities, within the city limits of Columbus, Ohio in the year of 2021.
