Multi-vehicle crash in Barnegat sends several to hospitals

BARNEGAT, N.J. – A multi-vehicle accident on Barnegat Boulevard North Tuesday morning resulted in multiple injuries and hospitalizations, authorities said.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:11 a.m. between Melissa Drive and Rosehill Road when a black 2011 Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 40-year-old woman with a 14-year-old male passenger, struck the rear of a stopped 2020 Acura MDX. The impact caused the Acura, operated by a 45-year-old woman with a 15-year-old male passenger, to collide with a 2010 Ford Taurus before overturning onto its roof.

The Ford Taurus, driven by a 17-year-old male, was pushed into the back of a 2024 Chevrolet Trax, which was occupied by an 18-year-old female driver and two passengers, ages 16 and 18. The Acura, Taurus, and Trax were stopped in traffic in the left lane, waiting to turn onto Bengal Boulevard when the collision occurred.

Several occupants were transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment, while one individual was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center for further care. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
