The force of the impact caused the Sonata to spin into a Toyota Camry before finally coming to rest. Police said multiple people were injured, but the number and severity of those injuries were not immediately released.

Traffic was slowed in the area as emergency crews worked to assist victims and clear the wreckage.

Investigation ongoing

Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash. Details on the cause, road conditions, and the victims’ conditions are expected to be released as the inquiry progresses.

Authorities have not yet announced whether any charges will be filed.
