ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY – In a significant collaborative effort, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations’ New York Field Office, New York State agencies, and local police departments carried out search warrants at seven locations today. This action follows a year-long investigation into several Rockland County smoke shops.
The operation saw warrants executed in two locations within the Town of Clarkstown, two in the Town of Orangetown, and one in the Village of Suffern. Further searches were conducted at a business and a private residence, both located in the Town of Clarkstown.
District Attorney Tom Walsh highlighted the collective endeavor to ensure lawful business operations across Rockland County. The investigation initially focused on unlicensed cannabis product sales, including to minors, but uncovered a broader scheme involving substantial tax evasion efforts by the implicated businesses.
Acting Special Agent in Charge Erin Keegan from HSI New York detailed the comprehensive nature of the crimes and the partnership among federal, state, and local agencies aimed at addressing these issues. The operation reflects a commitment to upholding legal standards and addressing tax evasion and unlicensed sales in the community. Agencies involved include the Rockland County DA’s Office, HSI, NYS Tax and Finance, NYS Office of Cannabis Management, and police departments from Clarkstown, Orangetown, and Suffern.
