Murphy Supports Murphy Plan For Offshore Wind Farms in New Jersey

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ – Assemblywoman Carol Murphy, who is currently running for Congress, has voiced strong support for the development of offshore wind energy projects in New Jersey, highlighting their potential economic and environmental benefits.

Murphy argues that the state’s commitment to renewable energy, in line with Governor Phil Murphy’s goals, should not be hindered by disinformation campaigns or political opposition.

Murphy emphasizes the substantial economic impact expected from three proposed offshore wind farm projects, which are projected to contribute $4.7 billion to the state’s economy and create over 10,000 jobs.

These projects, she notes, are aligned with President Biden’s National Offshore Wind agreement, ensuring that New Jersey benefits from related tax credits and programs. Additionally, Orsted, the company leading the initiative, has pledged to ensure project labor agreements that foster apprenticeship opportunities, particularly for underrepresented groups.

The offshore wind initiative also plans a $26.6 million investment in marine ecology research in New Jersey, overseen by the Department of Environmental Protection and the Board of Public Utilities.

Murphy calls this initiative a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” for South Jersey to lead in renewable energy development and to move towards the state’s goal of achieving 100% clean power by 2035. She stresses the importance of prioritizing the state’s long-term interests over short-term political challenges.
