PHILADELPHIA, PA – A quiet Sunday morning turned grim in Southwest Philadelphia when a woman was discovered unresponsive on the steps of a neighborhood church, prompting a large police response and an active investigation into her unexplained death.
Authorities said twelve district officers were dispatched around 8:07 a.m. to the 7200 block of Grovers Avenue after receiving a call about an unresponsive female outside the building. When officers arrived, they found the woman on the church steps. She was pronounced dead at 8:17 a.m., officials confirmed.
The cause of death has not been determined, and investigators have not released the woman’s identity pending notification of family. Detectives from the Southwest Division are working closely with the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine how and when she died.
Neighbors described the scene as unusually quiet for a Sunday morning, with several blocks briefly cordoned off as investigators processed evidence. The church remained closed while forensic teams conducted their work.
