CAMDEN, NJ—In anticipation of heavy rainstorms expected this week, New Jersey American Water has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and continuity of water and wastewater services across the region.
The utility company has begun preparations to safeguard its facilities, including water treatment plants and pump stations.
Ben Morris, vice president of operations, emphasized that safety and emergency response are top priorities. The company’s teams are well-trained in handling emergency situations, equipped to maintain operations and restore services quickly if disruptions occur.
Operational readiness includes the testing and fueling of generators, vehicles, and preparing wastewater plants for increased flows.
Special attention is given to the Raritan-Millstone Water Treatment Plant, which boasts an enhanced flood protection system and is particularly vulnerable due to its location on the Raritan River.
New Jersey American Water also advises customers to prepare personally for the storms. Recommended steps include making emergency plans, understanding flood risks, and practicing safety precautions such as avoiding floodwaters and securing necessary supplies.
