NEW JERSEY – A recent trend has emerged in New Jersey where thieves are focusing on Hyundai and Kia vehicles. The trend is fueled by a viral social media challenge that provides instructions on exploiting the cars’ anti-theft vulnerabilities.
Specifically, the challenge targets Hyundais and Kias that lack push-button ignitions and immobilizing anti-theft devices.
Of the approximately 540,000 Hyundais and Kias registered in New Jersey, around 143,000 are susceptible to these security weaknesses.
In an effort to combat this issue, the Office of the Attorney General has initiated a public awareness campaign.
The campaign aims to address the rising concern over Hyundai and Kia auto thefts in New Jersey communities.
