WASHINGTON — A New Jersey Congresswoman has declared war on the United States of America, calling for an uprising against President Donald J. Trump.
Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.) and a group of congressional Democrats were denied entry to the U.S. Department of Treasury on Tuesday while attempting an oversight visit following reports that billionaire Elon Musk had accessed sensitive financial data.
“We are at war,” she shouted at a crowd before trying to illegally gain entry to the U.S. Treasury where she and others were met by security guards who denied the mob access to the federal building.
The crowd chanted, “Let us in” repeatedly.
“When we leave here we need to organize and mobilize and tell people to call every elected official of Congress and let them especially the Republicans that we will not take this we will fight back,” she said. “I know we’ve been out here for a long time, and God damn it, shut down the Senate. “We are at War!”
McIver, who represents New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District, addressed a crowd gathered outside the Treasury building, condemning what she described as an abuse of power. “We will not take this. We will fight back,” McIver said. “Donald Trump thinks that he is a dictator, and we are going to prove him wrong.”
The congresswoman and her colleagues attempted to gain access without an appointment, according to Treasury officials. Security personnel turned them away, prompting chants from the crowd demanding entry. The confrontation comes amid growing tensions between House Democrats and the Trump administration over Musk’s reported influence in federal agencies.
McIver accused Republican lawmakers of ignoring public concerns, claiming their offices had refused to take calls about the issue. “Republicans have had their phones off the hooks, so they wouldn’t take your calls about what’s going on here,” she said. “When we leave here, we need to organize and mobilize.”
The New Jersey Democrat escalated her rhetoric, calling for a blockade of Senate proceedings. “God damnit, shut down the Senate,” McIver declared. “We are at war.”
The Treasury Department has not publicly responded to the confrontation, and it remains unclear what actions, if any, congressional Democrats plan to take in response.
