New Jersey Elementary School Principal Arrested for Stealing Money

EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Evesham Township School District reported a theft at Helen L. Beeler Elementary School that occurred in late February 2024, involving over $700 belonging to the school district.

Following an investigation by the Evesham Police Department’s Investigative Bureau, the school’s principal Colleen Schroeder has been charged with one count of theft.

Schroeder, 46, of Hainesport, NJ, was arrested on March 1 without incident and released on a summons, with a first appearance hearing scheduled at Burlington County Superior Court.

The Evesham Township School District superintendent, Justin Smith, has issued a statement confirming Schroeder’s arrest and the district’s cooperation with the ongoing police investigation. Schroeder, who is currently on an unrelated leave, will remain on leave pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.

The Evesham Township Board of Education stresses the seriousness with which it treats accusations of theft, emphasizing the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The police department has announced that no further information regarding the case will be released at this time.
