New Jersey Mailman Stole 0k in Valuable Baseball Cards On the Job

NEWARK, NJ — A former U.S. Postal Service employee from the Bronx pleaded guilty to stealing valuable trading cards and sports memorabilia from mail parcels while working as a sorting clerk, Acting U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna announced Tuesday.

Shelby Dozier, 34, admitted to theft of mail by a postal service employee in U.S. District Court before Judge Esther Salas. The charges stem from Dozier’s employment at the Clifton Main Post Office, where he was hired in August 2022.

According to court documents, between September and December 2022, Dozier stole the contents of at least 10 parcels sent to a Clifton-based consignment auction house specializing in trading cards and sports memorabilia. He sold the stolen items to individuals and collectible stores, ultimately defrauding victims of $108,692.49.

As part of his plea agreement, Dozier has agreed to pay restitution to the victims. The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 or twice the financial gain from the offense.

Dozier is scheduled to be sentenced on April 22, 2025. The investigation was conducted by special agents from the USPS Office of Inspector General and the Postal Inspection Service.
