FRANKLIN TWP., NJ – A 38-year-old Somerset woman was arrested after her five-month-old daughter was discovered with life-threatening head injuries inside a Franklin Township hotel earlier this month, authorities said.
Police were called to a hotel on Cedar Grove Lane around 12:25 a.m. on Sept. 6 for a report of an injured infant. Officers arrived to find the baby lethargic and suffering from a large contusion on the back of her head. She was rushed to a local trauma center, where doctors determined she had sustained multiple skull fractures, head swelling and intracranial hemorrhages, investigators said.
Inside the same room, police found the child’s mother, Pamela Janiszak, unconscious on a bed. She was also transported to a hospital for treatment. Detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office launched a joint investigation.
Authorities said their findings pointed to Janiszak as being responsible for her daughter’s injuries. On Sept. 16, she was arrested without incident in Toms River. She has been charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and was booked into Somerset County Jail pending a court hearing.
No updates were given on the infant’s current condition.
