KERR COUNTY, Texas — A New Jersey native is being celebrated as an American hero after saving 165 people from devastating floods in central Texas.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Scott Ruskan, an aviation survival technician 3rd class stationed in Corpus Christi, led daring rescue efforts in Kerr County as floodwaters engulfed homes and stranded residents.

Ruskan’s swift actions and bravery under extreme conditions ensured the safe evacuation of dozens of families, earning him widespread praise.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem commended his efforts, calling him “a true embodiment of courage and service.”The flooding, caused by relentless rainfall, overwhelmed local infrastructure, leaving many residents trapped.
