Authorities provide guidance on reporting drone activity in Morris and Somerset counties

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Law enforcement agencies in Morris and Somerset counties have issued a joint statement addressing concerns over recurring drone activity in the area, reassuring the public that the sightings do not currently pose a known threat to safety.

The statement, released by Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald alongside other law enforcement officials, acknowledged residents’ unease about the unidentified drones. Local and county agencies, in partnership with the FBI-Newark, New Jersey State Police, and the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, are actively monitoring and investigating the incidents.

“There continues to be no known threat to public safety,” the officials emphasized in the statement, while encouraging residents to remain vigilant and report any relevant sightings or information.

Residents are urged to report drone-related information to the FBI by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submitting tips online at tips.fbi.gov, where videos of drone sightings can also be uploaded.

For additional information on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), officials recommended visiting the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness website.

Law enforcement remains focused on addressing public concerns while collaborating with federal and state partners to ensure safety.
