New Jersey Traffic Report for Tuesday Morning Commute

New Jersey commuters faced significant delays Tuesday morning due to multiple accidents, emergency construction, and high traffic volume across major roadways.

In Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, a crash on I-80 westbound near Exit 47A for I-280 resulted in the closure of two right lanes as of 8:16 a.m. Another crash on I-287 northbound in Edison Township, north of Exit 3 for New Durham Road, led to the closure of one right lane at 7:59 a.m.

Emergency construction and a sinkhole on I-80 eastbound at Exit 34 for NJ 15 in Wharton caused a full road closure at 7:28 a.m. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes due to the severity of the situation.

Traffic congestion was also reported on several major roadways. Delays were seen on NJ 24 westbound near Exit 7 for NJ 124 and JFK Parkway in Millburn Township as of 8:30 a.m. The Garden State Parkway southbound experienced a two-mile delay from south of Exit 149 for CR 506 in Bloomfield to south of Exit 147 for Clinton Avenue in East Orange due to heavy volume. Northbound delays were also reported near Exit 127 for US 9, I-287, and NJ 440 in Woodbridge Township.

Further congestion occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike and surrounding routes. The Turnpike’s express lanes northbound from Exit 71 for NJ 4 and Broad Avenue in Leonia to north of Exit 72A for NJ 4 in Fort Lee saw a one-mile delay due to congestion on the George Washington Bridge. On NJ 3 eastbound, delays stretched from Harmon Meadow Boulevard in Secaucus to US 1&9 in North Bergen Township, with a current travel time of under five minutes. Westbound, delays extended from east of Bloomfield Avenue to east of US 46 in Clifton, with travel times between 10 and 15 minutes.

The Turnpike’s inner roadway northbound from north of Interchange 14 for I-78 and US 1&9 to the Southern Mixing Bowl in Newark saw a one-mile delay due to volume. Additionally, congestion affected NJ 29 northbound from north of I-295 in Hamilton Township to north of Thunder Road and Cass Street in Trenton.

Other delays were reported on I-295 southbound from south of Exit 29 for US 30 in Barrington to south of Exit 26N for I-76 and I-676 in Bellmawr. NJ 55 northbound saw slowdowns approaching NJ 42 in Deptford Township, while NJ 42 northbound experienced congestion from north of Exit 10A for NJ 168 and Black Horse Pike in Gloucester Township to I-295 in Bellmawr.

Traffic on the George Washington Bridge lower level eastbound was also backed up, with a reported travel time of 25 minutes on I-95 from I-80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge. Motorists were advised to plan for extended travel times and use alternate routes where possible.
